Lab assistant

Cecilia Peralta Balducci

I am a Laboratory Technician with a strong foundation in biotechnology and a passion for sustainable pest control. I earned my Diploma in Laboratory Technology from the National University of Río Cuarto (UNRC, Argentina), where I began my career in a Veterinary Clinical Analysis Laboratory. After moving to Spain, I completed a Master’s in Biotechnology at the Public University of Navarre (UPNA), where I discovered my interest in bioinsecticides through my master’s thesis. My professional journey spans across various sectors, including agroindustry, the pharmaceutical industry, and soil science labs. However, it was through a position at CONICET (Argentina) as a Research support technician that I reconnected with the field of Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt), contributing to research on the biotechnological control of crop pests.

Since 2023, I work in the Biotechnological Control of Pest Group at BIOTECMED, University of Valencia (UV), where currently I support experiments on the characterization of B. thuringiensis strains as part of the project “Alternative Biopesticides for Safe Integrated Pest and Water Management Around the Mediterranean.” Previously, I contributed to research on genetic tools for sustainable insect farming, and I was introduced to the incredible world of the Black soldier fly (BSF) and worked on optimizing Bt-based bioinsecticides for controlling Spodoptera species. Over time, my work has consistently revolved around insect pests and their natural enemies an area I find both scientifically fascinating and crucial for the future of sustainable agriculture.
