Early Stage Researcher

Elvira Ribera García

I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology from the Polytechnic University of Valencia, where I specialized in plant sciences. During my bachelor’s thesis, I contributed to a project focused on improving crop adaptation to drought—an experience that deepened my interest in the intersection of biotechnology and environmental challenges. Then, I pursued a Master’s degree in Industrial and Environmental Biotechnology at the Complutense University of Madrid. Following my studies, I spent three years working in ecotoxicology, conducting regulatory assays to assess the impact of new active ingredients used in plant protection products on non-target organisms.

This experience gave me a foundation in experimental design and in technical laboratory skills, while allowing me to contribute to the development of safer agrochemical solutions. In 2024, I joined the Biotechnology Pest Control (CBP) group, where I currently focus my research on Varroa destructor, a major parasitic threat to honeybees. My work aims to uncover the mechanisms behind pesticide resistance in this mite and trace alleles associated with resistance. To achieve this, I combine molecular biology techniques, bioinformatics, and cell culture systems. For any questions or collaborations, please feel free to contact me at my email
