Early Stage Researcher

Rosa Esmeralda Becerra García

Hello, my name is Rosy. I obtained my bachelor’s degree in Biology in Mexico City (at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana), where I studied the evolution and population ecology of Millerichthys robustus, a unique killifish species endemic to Mexico. Then, I obtained my master’s degree in Plant Biotechnology at Cinvestav-Irapuato (Mexico), where I gained extensive training in molecular and plant biology. My research focused on the biological relevance of protein-DNA and protein-protein interactions during the development of the gynoecium in Arabidopsis thaliana. As part of this research, I developed a new technique to study protein-DNA interactions using a novel reporter gene, NanoLuc.

Currently, I am a PhD student in the Biotechnology and Biomedicine program at the University of Valencia, Spain. My project takes an interdisciplinary approach -combining bioinformatics, virology, ecology, and molecular biology- to study multitrophic interactions in plant-insect-entomopathogen systems, particularly those involving the tomato leafminer Tuta absoluta, tomato plants, and RNA/DNA viruses. This research aligns with my long-term goal of contributing to sustainable solutions for pest management in agriculture. Science thrives through diversity! I strongly believe that every person, no matter their cultural background, socioeconomic status, or identity, deserves dignity, respect, and an equal place in the pursuit of knowledge. Feel free to reach out!
